Four killed as picnic bus collides with pick-up van in Cox’s Bazar

At least four people were killed and eight others injured in a head-on collision between a pick-up van and a picnic bus on Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram highway in Harbang area under Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar Thursday morning.

The deceased are Riduan of Uttar Karmujuripara village, Abu Bakar and Joynal Abedin of Samajikpara village and Mohiuddin of Batatali village under Chakaria upazila. All the deceased were day labourers by profession.

 

The accident took place at about 7:45am on Thursday, said Chiringa Highway Police Station’s sub-inspector Khokon Kanti Rudra.

He said that a Cox’s Bazar-bound picnic bus of Zakir Travel (Dhaka Metro-Ba-13-1315) from Gazipur collided head-on with a Chattogram-bound pick-up van (Chattogram Metro-Na-11-1789) when they reached Harbang area.

He said that that accident left four workers dead on the spot and seven or eight others injured.

The police officer said that they recovered the bodies and sent them to the district general hospital for post-mortem examination.

The vehicles were taken to the highway police station, he said.
